R9 fury?

I had decided on waiting a bit and buying a 1070 that was a bit out of my price range but was offered a very lightly used r9 fury for 250. Should I take it? Playing at 1440p but not many gpu intensive games

Well depends on what PSU you have. If you have enough of a PSU then jump on it

The R9 Fury should prove enough for not the most demanding gaming at 1440p, sure its limited VRAM will be an issue on a few games at said resolution but you can play on 1080p if you hit its limit.

 

I would go for it, make sure PSU is up for the task though this card is very very power hungry.

I have an 850w bronze PSU. Worth it over the 1070 then?

New Furies were going for under $240 just a month ago, though I think they're completely out of stock now. $250 is still a great value for 1440p.

I mean the 1070 is still faster but the Fury will still outperform the 1060... it lays right between, for 250$ its not a bad deal.... PSU wise you'll be fine.

Does your monitor have Free Sync or G sync because Free sync is for Amd like the R9 and G sync is for Nvidia like the 1070. Also if you can try the R9 out in a benchmark test like 3Dmark to make sure it works well.

I have a 1440p 144hz freesync monitor. I had not thought if that with the switch to Nvidia thanks

yeah no problem if you do get the 1070 be warned some monitors with free sync will drop to 60hz with nvidia graphics

Then set custom refresh rate through nVidia control panel? lol my Freesync Ultrawide is running on 80hz just fine.

I was just pointing out what my friend how bought a 1070 and a 1080p Free sync and told me it went form 71hz to 60hz

Because you have to set a custom refresh rate, once done that there are no other issues.

 

*Edit: As long as using proper cable as well, for instance DisplayPort 1.2 or higher and Dual Link DVI whenever you're going higher refresh rates than 30hz~60hz.... HDMI is a no go.

So what I'm hearing is I lose a small amount of performance and use more power but worth the price difference to just go for the r9 fury at over $100 less than the 1070 unless I find a used 1070 at a similar price

Not necessarily.

If I take one of my Sapphire NITRO R9-Fury's out, during a typically gaming load, my system (i7-6800K rig) is pulling a maximum of 426W from the wall socket.

Considering I'm using a 80 PLUS Platinum EVGA 850 P2...at 430W is about 91% efficiency.

The system, itself, is using about 388W (the extra ~40W is lost as heat).

You may be correct.

According to Corsair, they did have a 'green' CXM, but that has been discontinued for a while, and only the "green" 750 CXM remains.

There is a "grey' level CX-M, too.

Given how @Staryday's system is brand-new, I'm assuming it's the new model.

The R9 Fury will typically draw a bit more power, but it's not something BLOWN UP HUGE that you should be worried about.

Your 850W will not be a problem to power your entire system with two GTX 1070's or R9-Fury's.

 

At the end of the day, you need to make the call.

GTX 1070 or R9-Fury.

(If you can wait, see what AMD"s Vega brings to the table)

So either get a decent psu or dont get r9 fury.

If you undervolt an R9 Fury, it's gonna be almost as efficient as a GTX 980 while being faster at the same time:

They went down to 213Watts of power draw for a GPU alone, meaning that you could in theory run such Crossfire off a 650W PSU.
