Hey guys! This summer I'll be heading to Florida with my family for a week. We don't really travel very often, so during this trip I want to document it and put together a nice montage that we can look back on.

The best camera we own is an iPhone 6. The quality from this thing is great, however it's only 16gb.

I've thought about some solutions including:

  • Buy a dedicated camera (probably the most expensive solution and for something that's only a week, may be a waste and I'm trying to avoid this option)
  • Buy something to expand my phone storage
  • Buy a portable external device that I can empty my phone every night in (something like a external hard drive that allows me to transfer videos and photos from my phone via wireless

What do you guys think? Please feel free to post any more solutions below. We'll be mainly on the beach while we're there, so something that isn't too big and expensive that I'm scared to drop or lose. I'm leaning towards either option 2 or 3 and also buying a simple rig for my phone to capture better video.

buy a 2nd hand DSLR for cheap, look at craigslist or other 2nd hand dealers.

I would not listen to these dudes. If you want any half decent video that would match the iPhone 6 you have to get model that will run you more than 200US imo. If I remember there are kinda like USB sticks you can buy for your iPhone, those will fix your storage problems. If you can afford I'd try and find a cheap smartphone gimbal and a lens for the iPhone 6 too. You can achive proffesional looking results if you know how to use it and if you have sufficent light. Thats the largest limitation, light. But during the day outside it should be no problem.

I will link you some stuff:

Storage: https://www.sandisk.com/home/mobile-device-storage/ixpand

I think there is some cheaper options than this one too.

Gimbal: https://www.amazon.com/Z1-Smooth-Handheld-Smartphone-Brushless-Stabilizer/dp/B00UBLT108

Lens: https://www.olloclip.com/ (I know this one is very expensive but it gives you an idea)

okey, if you buy all this you will go over your budget, I know. But some may be had for cheaper and it gives you and idea on how you can make it look great. If you just buy two, get the gimbal and storage I linked. That gimbal is popular and will make your shots look way better.

Buying a Dslr is pointless in that price category, better to make the iPhone even better for that money.

FX-8350 GTX760 16GB RAM 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD

This is what I was looking for. Thank you! For the gimbal, that's $200 USD and I live in Canada so I'm not sure if I can stretch for that. Any cheaper options?

For the Sandisk drive, it looks great. I've seen similiar products like that and a lot of  people say that these can have issues with newer iOS updates and also software isn't optimizied and transfering video is either slow, or doesnt work at all with larger videos. I need something that I know is going to work with my iPhone 6 with the latest iOS and not only that but work well and do what I want it to do. Getting the most for my money is my priority. Thoughts?

One thing that should be possible but I guess you probably don't want to do is just having a laptop with you that you transfer things too :)
