DDR4 will require a new CPU?

NCIXCom's (Linus') video says that Haswell only has a DDR3 memory controller. Will DDR4 be realeased and have nothing that it is compadable with it or will there be a new motherboard chipset like Z97 and a Intel 5th generation sooner than we thought?

I wouldn't worry about it too much... by the time DDR4 becomes widely available (and affordable) I'm sure that the hardware will be more than up to par. If it's even an issue in the first place.

Yes bit like the Core 2 Duo/Quads could only take DDR2, I's could take DDR3 and whatever is next will take DDR4

just look @ the dd2 to dd3 when dd3 came to the market is was like 200 euros for 8gb ram 3 years later bam 120 euro for 16gb ddr3 ram

The lowest speed of DDR4 will be no lower than 2500mhz from what i heard. 1600Mhz won't exist in DDR4 if i'm not mistaken.

^ With that said, picking up one 8gb stick is plenty for a first build.  I have been running 6gb for the past 3years and a few more gigs would help but isn't limiting much.  I change out my SSD ever year or so so I careless how much the page is affecting my lifetime of the ssd.

 

Also pci express 4.0 should be coming out late next year (so yea - ill be waiting till that and ddr4 because it makes no sense not to).

Core 2 duo/quad were ddr3 compatible.

We've got the Haswell refresh and Broadwell before DDR4 will be available on the mainstream chipsets.

I would rather stay with my current x79 build and get more DDR3 RAM once DDR4, because if theres not a huge difference in speeds right now there probably wont be a giant difference from DDR3 to DDR4 unless you were using an APU.  And do you think that the x79 platform will need to be updated to a whole new one?
