As the resident old fart, I can tell you it's almost exactly the opposite with pc games.  Loads times are getting shorter,  controls are getting easier, you don't need to spend 45 minutes to an hour manually configuring ini files and jumper settings on cards to get the sound card to work and getting the game engine to recognise the mouse. Not to mention the 13 reboots after ever change to see if it "works".

Ever had a ZX Spectrum with a tape machine connected to it and having your trusty screwdriver ready to tune the loading of a game, waiting the 5 -12 mins to load the game then failing at the last second? then you have to do it all over again?

A the 80's how wonderful home computer gaming was back then  and we did not have internet back then either.

exactly,  I had a c64 with tape drive.  Although we had little problems with reliability we definitely had 10 minute load times for some games.

I remember bugging the hell out of a ton of games. There were no patches in those days either.

I remember playing perfect dark and having dead enemies fall through walls. It's been too long to remember other bugs. My NES broke when I was pretty young, so I barely remember any of the glitches in those games.

When Ratchet and Clank came out, it was a big deal for the controls (*cough camera)

Speaking of which, camera were a big deal in the past also.

Semi-real time control in original parasite eve was also a big deal I believe. (pre-2000)

Now we complain how we can't run things in max settings. Oh boohoo.

EDIT: Oh, and not to mention, when they released a game, it f***ing worked right out of the box. When there was a glitch, (like wall-climbing glitch in PS2 R&C games), the developers left it intentionally or at least knew about it. They knew their games inside out.
