Do I really need a monitor that has a 1-2Ms response time is 5ms awful or not enough I probably can't tell the difference looking to buy a 1080p monitor on a budget from $100 to $130. I've had my 19 inch 720p monitor for 5 years. I think it's time now

unless you are planning on going pro you should be fine with a 5 ms response time.

Response time numbers on the box don't really mean anything.

Response time is a convoluted specification that doesn't really mean anything and anyone who foams at the mouth at the thought of using anything higher than 3ms is just fooling themselves.

 

Faster is better yes, but you don't need it.

Response times are, for the most part, meaningless. There's no standardised way of measuring it and even if there was, they way they are quoted (GtG) is only representative of a small portion of situations. Also consider that 5ms is 0.005 seconds. Not a difference humans can perceive.

Thanks because I didn't plan on spending around $400 for just a monitor, that's crazy

You can ignore that response time number.

If you actually care about having a fast monitor because you want to play professionally then go to displaylag.com and pay attention to the input lag.

That's the number that matters.

Humans react in about 250ms, a 60hz display only refreshes every 16 ms, so 1-2ms vs 5-8ms isn't really that big of a deal
