Playstation network down already

So essentially they got flooded with users and now nobody can connect. That's a great launch day flop. How can they not prepare better for this? Every major release over the last year has been plagued with this problem and it will most likely happen to Xbox as well.

Probably because they don't want to have to commision a bunch of servers just for the first week and then decomission them soon after.

Because servers are expensive and there wont have the same load normally as it does now

Same will happen on xbone one, they would have to buy masses of expensive servers which would be useless after launch.

I doubt otll happen with X1 XBL has been around since the first xbox and I imagine it probably got hit harder when the new COD launched than when the X1 comes out.

This is normal. All launches are plagued with too many people trying to connect. Of course it's gonna crash.

The network has been around for what 7+ years though...

but watch there will be a bigger backlash over it than everyone beloved PS4 because its Microsoft and the Xbox One.

Agreed, however, the sheer load during such launches are gonna be extremely high compared to regular load they would normally experience.

I can possibly imagine that for the PS4 especially since they have a bunch of new stuff since the PS3 for their online stuff. I dont expect this to happen with the X1 though as my guess is they use the same back bone as the X360 and thats basically proven now and the new X1's will probably have less load on the system than the launch of a new AAA title.

sadly no because nearly all games on PC that have online as a major component have issues on launch sometime far after.

Couldn't agree more. Looks like Sony sold more units than predicted. How many? well. hard to say, but I can say Sony did not "cheap" out on their servers, they have money and lots of it. But just weren't prepared for the mass influx of players all at once.

Its can be a good thing to have the servers crash like that, at least you know they sold a ton of them. And i doubt anyone returned one due to server crash. buyers will wait a day for sony to purchase and optimize more servers to handle the hordes of them little playsters.

Yeah but these aren't because of PC's it's because of the game. Take bf4 for example the game itself is messed up nothing to do with platform. This is sony's own fault with PSN being down.

The only reason it doesn't happen is because the PC doesn't have a psn (or pcn or whatever). I'd rather have have a service that doesn't work the first week than not have it at all

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place

i was more referencing the fact that almost all MMOs have issues. Other games that had notable issues were Diablo III and the new Sim City.

Lame. They should invest in renting some servers for launch week or more just to avoid the bad PR.

Its not just about the servers but the whole infrastructure.

Why do we need a service? We have steam for games we have TONS of social network services etc. Hell we have the whole internet. What makes you want another service on top of that?
