that motherboard recently received a BIOS update that increased compatibility for 3000mhz+ RAM, so 2666mhz should be achievable once you flash said BIOS (or the mobo will already have it).

Some boards are extremely picky you may find the sticks sit at 2133mhz for a while until bios and compatibilities are ironed out, if gaming it would be a lot cheaper to just drop a 7700k in the current build

Yes, though you'll have to set it to that frequency in the bios.

 

Does he need 8 cores though? Just wanna make sure since it's not an upgrade in gaming performance.
