hey guys im in th market for a new mobo cpu as it were

i do mostly gaming but want somthing that will age well

i feel 8 cores will last longer than 4 and that ryzen isnt far behind the intel chips as far as gaming goes
thoughts

also the 1700 instead of the 1800x because they both oc to 4 ghz and perform the same ?

Do you need to upgrade though? You have a 4790k, after all.

A 7700k definitely wouldn't be worth the upgrade IMO and ATM going Ryzen wouldn't be worth it unless you currently need the cores.

It wasn't RAM? :(

I guess it depends a lot on how long you wanna keep the CPU. If 2 or 3 years 7700k. If not probably a 1700.

Well, the 7700k performs better in games in most cases, but games have had very little, if any, optimization for Ryzen. If I was in the market right now I'd go with the 1700 though because I feel that by the end of the year Ryzen will have the major kinks worked out and the gap will close

Intel's whole platform is mature, they've released incremental upgrades on their platform line for years. Ryzen is a new platform thats improving regularly for now, and developers are getting their hands on it and learning to optimize code for it. So yeah, I think Ryzen will age much better, even if it doesn't outperform the 7700k everywhere

Well word is that AMD has committed to keep the chipset until at least 2020 from what I've heard so unless Intel sticks to lga-1150 Ryzen will have more upgrade options too
