GTX 1080 Ti worth?

Nobody thought there would be another Titan while still inside the 1000 series line up... a second big brother to the 1080 thus why they felt betrayed, every one still expected a Volta Titan to come next year for instance.

The 680 and the 780 were "the same architecture". It's on thing to be the same architecture, these are the same exact chip. I don't much care what they called it, the relation between the Titan Xp and the Titan XP is identical to that of the Titan Black and the original Titan.

 

The real point of contention with Maxwell/Pascal is that in the Kepler generation nomenclature the cut down GP-102 would have been the 1080, and then the full GP-104 would have been the 1060. How much value to the consumer would keeping that system have wrought?

 

I expected a new Titan to be released. I didn't expect it to be named something so dire, but I think anyone who was not expecting Nvidia to release a fully unlocked GP-102 while knowing that the Titan XP was not a fully enabled chip at some point was kidding themselves.

So your issue is that they aren't obfuscating it enough? Nvidia did the exact same thing with both sets of Titan, but they are being too transparent this time?

I have no problem at all, I am explaining why people complained and why they do have a solid point to, why market the Titan X Pascal as the best Pascal card when it isn't? Like I explained the great majority of buyers are not even interested in learning how the graphical processing unit works, all they care is for the video card being what it was market to be.

I am never going to sympathise with someone who spent £1100 on a GPU and didn't do any research into that purchase. All of this information was available and easy to find before the Xp was released. In no way are these cards a complete novice should be looking at. Much they opposite -- they are marketed to prosumers, as a value alternative to buying both a Quadro AND a 1080. In that lens they are good value, while as pure gaming GPUs no one should buy them ever.

I don't think what Nvidia did was "shitty" at all. I thought it was completely predictable and therefore navigable.

It is going to suck when Volta comes out considering the performance of the DGX-1 is insane. Personally it's not really impressive coming from a highly clocked 980ti. Also the card isn't going to max everything out in 5 years. Not even 3. With the rise of 4K 120hz+ and ulra wides pushing past that with AAA games you won't get the desired FPS. Look at the 780ti. It was the king in 2014, well now it sucks. Keep in mind when I say suck and not playable I am focusing on the latest and greatest, ultra settings 60+FPS in every game. Because a 780ti is still a playable card, but compared to a Titan XP it sucks.

You'd dearly hope that to be the case though, right? I mean if the best of 2014 were still the best now then something's gone horribly wrong. People complain that CPU improvements are like 5% year on year, and then equally complain when GPUs depreciate tiers at a time when the next architecture replaces them.

Yeah I guess that's the cycle. In reality a 1080ti could easily last 10 years. I still use a GT9600 in one of my computers for light gaming. It runs source games perfectly fine at 1080p. But my year old 980ti is needing a replacement soon because that's what enthusiast me needs.

Yeah. Ultimately I upgraded from my 580s entirely because they no longer had an output interface compatible with my monitor (4K 60fps), even if their computational power were enough for what I was after (they could totally have handled the MMO I was playing at the time, even at 4K had they the interface for it). There's more to this than "is it powerful enough".

The card is hella worth it I personally think it is better than the titan pascal edition and the price to performance ratio is great also the card can run any game on max settings and a solid 60fps which is just insane
