Actually, I didn't. I have a 6700k, just like you, and plan on keeping it for the next 4 years. I've had it for 1 1/2 years and haven't regretted my decision. How about you provide a source instead of assuming I have a Ryzen CPU, which I don't?

@Armakar here's evidence that Ryzen is way ahead of even the i3 7350k, and is on the same level as the other i5s.

Your argument that i5s will pull away from Ryzen makes no sense since most games can already utilize 4 cores, and in the future games aren't gonna become more single threaded but more multi threaded, so Ryzen would, theoretically, only get farther away from i5s and closer to i7s.

Not true, 1700 is more future proof. It has a higher core count. thats why. 

Quadcores will be "out" in 10 years. Most of the newer games do better with more cores

At the same time, you're not gonna be keeping your CPU for 10 years.

 

My stance on Ryzen 7 won't change. Only gaming? Get a 7700k. Doing other multi thread workloads like video editing/rendering/encoding, CAD applications that are multi threaded (I'm looking at you and your poor multi threaded performance Solidworks), or streaming? Get Ryzen.

 

I don't think there's anyone out there that is gonna buy a $350 CPU today and not upgrade in 6 years or less.

I have Solidworks. It is only tells one core to do something. That's the problem of SW. 

I have a nVidia Quadro K4000 in my SW system btw(Cant game on that card)

Solid works is horribly unoptimized for multiple cores. No idea why. I think most others are but SW just isn't. Like wat.

A friend of me has an AMD Phenom II X4 970. (has TDP of 125) and in the OC menu, there is an option to OC till 5.3 GHz. His mobo can take 6.3 max. But if he wants to go for 5.3. He'll need a hell of a cooler.

 

ATM he runs at 3,785 GHz. So not bad for such a CPU.

He has a cooler similar too a TX4. and reaches 45 C in idle. Pretty impressive tho!

People are always forgetting that Ryzen is not a simple 8 core CPU, it has 2 quad core CCXs, so even if games start using more cores, don't expect Ryzen to outperform an X99 CPU, it may be a bit faster than a Z270 CPU though. The reason why this will be the case, is because games if games starts using more cores, cores that are in different CCXs will have to communicate and the added latency will cause performance issues.

Well, X99 is a more futureproof solution. In 3-4 years, you will be able to get a 6950X for $300 on ebay. But X99 is a more expensive platform, so I think that for gaming Z270 (with 7700K) is the best choice right now.

BTW, since you already own a Z170 board, just get a 7700K, it is a $300 upgrade and it will give you the best gaming performance you can get
