I was actually thinking about buying a 1440p monitor since the prices have come down slightly but then I don't have the hardware to run games at that resolution. At this current time I don't have that kind of money yet. Anyways this is my current build:

Cpu: i5 4460

Graphics card: Sapphire Nitro RX 480 4GB

Ram: Corsair 8GB

Mobo: Gigabyte H81

SSD: Kingston 120gb

HDD: 1TB western digital blue

HDD: 500gb seagate barracuda

Case: Some crappy case I bought off ebay

PSU: Corsair HX 650

I have a Corsair Keyboard which I'm really happy with and a Logitech 402 mouse I also have a Ben q xl2411z which has a 144hz refresh rate.

I definitely do want to buy a new case I was looking at the Fractal design R5 since that's currently on discount on the Amazon website but then I was thinking that seems a little weird considering how much money I'm spending on a case in comparison to my current build. The other other option would be a Corsair 100R or any other silent PC case.

Should I buy the Fractal define R5 or different silent PC case and secondly What else could you upgrade from this build? Let me know below

Thanks

R5 gets my vote. I would go for a 1440 monitor if you're able.

The i7 4790k is quiet difficult to find plus there going for £250 plus the other option would be to sell the cpu, mobo and ram and go with kaby lake preferably the i5 7600k then I won't have any money left over to buy a 1440p monitor or buy a new GPU that would be a waste.

What about ryzen? Maybe an r5 might be your thing in the future.

Nowhere did he say "1440p ultra 60fps" so...a RX480 will do 1440p high 60fps completely fine :P

Hell, it will do 1440p ultra 45fps+ fine

I say go for the monitor now unless getting a different case is more important to you.

You have an rx 480. Honestly that GPU will be perfectly fine with 1440p. If you change the settings to high or medium from ultra you'll easily get over 60 fps. The increased resolution would still make the games look better even with some graphics reduced. Your framerate will still be slower, but you can recoup most of the losses.

The decreased framerate should make it easier on you CPU, not harder, so if your 4460 is fine now it will be relatively better in most scenarios with a 1440p display. Higher resolution displays put more load on the GPU without specifically harming the CPU, so it makes the graphics card more of a limiting factor in a system. Thus the CPU has more headroom relative to the GPU in modern games.

CPU: i7 4790k @ 4.7 GHz

GPU: XFX GTS RX580 4GB

Cooling: Corsair h100i

Mobo: Asus z97-A

RAM: 4x8 GB 1600 MHz Corsair Vengence

PSU: Corsair HX850

Case: NZXT S340 Elite Tempered glass edition

Display: LG 29UM68-P

Keyboard: Roccat Ryos MK FX RGB

Mouse: Logitech g900 Chaos Spectrum

Headphones: Sennheiser HD6XX

I am tempted to go with the case mainly because both of my side panels have become bent and no longer fit in the case. Majority of the games that I play tend to be open world games so I don't really get the benefit of having a higher refresh rate. I kinda wasted my money on having a 144hz monitor.

What is your opinion on buying a freesync monitor?

I have a freesync monitor and it's great.

Try to find a panel with a large operating range if you decide to go for it. Freesync on my monitor (LG 29UM68-P) is 55 to 75 Hz. If you can find one that'll go down to 45 Hz or lower, go for it (as long as the price is reasonable, I don't think the price is worth it considering the cheapest 1440p monitor with freesync on PCPartPicker is $399.99). FPS dips may leave the freesync operating range on the low side when using high or medium settings, so the lower the refresh rate that freesync kicks in, the better.

Freesync doesn't prevent stuttering, but it eliminates all tearing. Input latency is supposedly increased with freesync, but I haven't noticed it in the games I play.

I recommend getting an LG, Acer, or ASUS if you want a monitor with freesync based on what I've seen, but I'm no expert. BenQ and HP make decent monitors as well, but they have no freesync offerings through PCPartPicker (except the HP omen, but I don't know how much I trust the look of it and $399.99 is very high).
