Nope - that means you can afford it - the person you gave money to - cannot.

I'd say that you can claim to have been able to afford the CPU that you paid with someone else's money - only when you paid that money back in full :)

That would make sense if he had said "loan" him the money instead of "give" it to him.

To give someone something is equal to giving them a gift.

That's the thing though, isn't it? When someone gifts you something - you can't really say you can afford it - as you literally didn't do anything to get it. That's my point :)
