amd 1700 help

Hey guys, I recently helped my roommate purchase the components for a new gaming PC. For the CPU we got a Ryzen 7 1700 and we paired it with the MSI B350M Gaming PRO. After getting it all put together it will not post, with the motherboard "ez debug" led saying there is a problem with the CPU. We took the CPU out and reseated it just to make sure it was in correctly and we double checked the CPU power cable were properly fitted. But still no post. Do you guys think we just got a bad CPU? RMA time? Thanks for the suggestions.

Here are the full specs:

ryzen 7 1700

MSI b350M Gaming Pro

corsair vengeance 8GB ddr4

evga 600W PSU

asus rx480

WD blue 1TB

What is the exact led debug

From the motherboard manual: CPU - This indicates CPU is not detected or fail.

we took that to mean that maybe we didn't seat the CPU correctly, but we lifted the lever and the triangles match.

It could be the board. it's very rare for a modern CPU to be DOA unless there is physical damage, mobos on the other hand are most likely to have a problem.

99% sure the ram is hynix and that's why it won't work. You would be better off going with a 16gb kit.

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

I don't know why Ryzen spits out CPU errors when incompatible memory is installed, although that is what happened to mine when I tried upgrading the RAM to something it wasn't happy with.
