My friend wants to play games on his laptop but it has a crappy nvidia nvs 4200 in it that barely runs minecraft and CSGO he has no money so buying anytng new and expensive is out of the question however i have found this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Graphics-Video-Card-External-Independent-Laptop-GTS450-Mini-PCI-E-V8-0-EXP-GDC-/302254983976?hash=item465fcd0b28:g:Nq0AAOSw2gxYy1aj he says he has the port for it to work but i was wondering if anybody knows if these are any good or not, it doesnt matter if the graphics card is severely bottle necked as long as it performs better than  is does now in games, his cpu is a quad core i7 and he has 8gb ram so it seems to just be the poor GPU on it thats stopping it from running most games. he wants to run CS at a higher framerate and to be able to run GTA 5, the resolution of the screen is lower than 1080P.

cheers, :)

what laptop. Express card is a much better solution if you have ti

Those are a pain, and require the bottom to be off to use the gpu, and you have to remove the wifi card in most cases. Often a cheap desktop will cost less.

Its a Dell latitude e6420 and it has a 54mm express card, but the only adapter i could find was worth like $500...

we are willing to Frankenstein the laptop to make it work haha, i think a cheap desktop is a good isea too but they are still abit too expensive for a good enough one to run the games he wants.

Yeah i would have most likely gone with a second hand 750ti.

make sure the GPU draws power from PSU rather than entirely the slot.  Easy way to fry that X4 pcie slot with way too much power

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

how about something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Expresscard-34-To-2-PCI-E-Slots-Adapter-Laptop-connect-PCI-e-x1-x4-x8-x16-Cards-/121432821385?hash=item1c45f5ce89:g:zq0AAOSwVFlUD~AC

For used desktops look at something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-3010-BOOTS-Intel-Core-i3-3245-3-40GHz-250GB-HD-NO-OS-4GB-RAM-/142306779111?hash=item2122251fe7:g:zn0AAOSwdGFYwVt3

Haven't done something like this since my old IBM laptop. You should use an express card with a dock that supplies external power such as from the wall or with a PSU.
