Monitor for Overwatch

EunSoo

Hello! I am looking for a monitor, or what specs I should be looking for in a monitor, that will primarily be used for Overwatch (I have an ultrawide for everything else). I have not saved the money yet so I am unsure on budget, it will probably be in the $300-500usd range but I can easily save up more. The PC that will be running it has a 6600k and a 980. I don't want to give any more criteria as I am seeking what criteria I should have for a monitor dedicated to Overwatch. If you recommend a monitor, could you give a rational for the specs of that monitor? Thanks a lot!

I would say triple monitors, but ultrawide does much better than widescreen with most games and especially with shooters.

1080@144Hz would be a good height and frame-rate.

Main reason I'm getting a new monitor is because Ultrawides aren't the best for Overwatch. To get rid of an advantage in fov an ultrawide user might have they basically crop a 16:9 image to fit 21:9 so I am at a disadvantage that way.

You can still play in 16:9 if Blizzard doesn't allow 21:9.

Otherwise, I would just go with a 16:9 1080@144Hz IPS.

Just read that Overwatch doesn't allow users to gain an advantage with ultrawides and triple monitors for fear of creating a bias against 16:9... Wow!

Well, yea, Blizzard wants Overwatch to become a competitive esport, so giving players with a bigger wallet an obvious advantage would make their game less credible.

Honestly, most 144Hz monitors would do. You don't need G-Sync or FreeSync if you're looking to reduce input latency.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Yeah, I understand why they do it but it was annoying to find out after I got my ultrawide.

1440.

We have 2017, do you really want to keep using Full HD? That apart, Full HD with G-Sync cost nearly the same as WQHD 1440p ^^ so.. yea.

so your best options would be:

1. One of the 2 Dellls. 1440p, 144+ Hz, g-Sync. Awesome.

2. Alternative, Acer XB241YU (24") or Acer XB271HU (TN model, should be similar priced to the Dell, but it has a much better OSD)

3. Go down in Price to 200-250 bucks, and get a basic 1080p 144 Hz monitor, maybe with Freesync (so you can use it with a future AMD card. Freesync comes almost for free, so don't buy a 144 Hz Monitor without Freesync. it's better to have it, then need it later.)

Btw, i had the Dell s2417dg, and switched to the Acer XB241YU. Using a GTX 1060 (similar performance as the GTX 980).

OW at High settings (not ultra or something like that. You won't see any difference tbh), and fps are constantly at 110-120 fps~.

Be warned, that monitor has a lot of banding issues. I just sent mine back after reading about them and verifying mine had it as well.

It depends on what you want in terms of settings. My GTX 1080 at 1440p, for example, floats around 200-220FPS with all settings set to low, but a couple settings such as texture quality set to ultra. The 980 is going to lack some horsepower by comparison, but 144Hz 1440p should be achievable with everything set to low.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.
