Samsung 850 Evo m.2 vs 850 Evo SATA

greensauce
Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

same speed, there both sata. h

Currently my local computer store sells a Samsung 850 Evo M.2 at 15$ cheaper price than the SATA version

I thought it's strange because for all I know, M.2 SSDs are more expensive than SATA SSDs

is it safe to pick the M.2 version over the SATA version?

Either one will be fine, just make sure your motherboard supports M.2 as well as booting from it if planning to use it as an OS drive.

M.2 should be faster than the Sata one, I currently have a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD and it's a little rocket man compared to my 850 EVO Sata SSD.

Your referring to a PCI-E M.2, this is Sata based, no speed difference over a regular 2.5 inch.

No reason not to get it if its cheaper, but if you ever want to upgrade to a faster PCI-E one, you will lose this drive (Unless you have a second M.2 slot).
