iphone 6plus passcode

Hi all,

My dad has an unlocked Iphone 6plus.  I dont know what he did to it but after he did an update, it locked him out of his phone. Now he need a passcode to enter after restarting. He never used a passcode before he said. and I can't reset it through his Icloud  since he didnt have his " find my iphone " turned on. 
If i factory reset the phone, will his phone still be unlocked? or do i have to unlock it again? 
are there any other way to reset his passcode through itune ? 

Im and android user and not great with iphone stuff ~.~ thankyou.

When an iPhone restarts, the first time you unlock it from the lock screen you must use a passcode. It must be set when the phone was first setup. I assume he uses Touch ID and never turned it off? But a factory reset will erase all pictures, apps and everything.

 OP if its yours, you should have an apple ID so just log into that, if not please return it to the authorities.

Pretty sure calling Apple will be x100000 more helpful than asking on a forum.
