I'm not that much of a gamer, or a video editor, but meh. I do a little bit of everything and I need a machine that lasts long and excels at that.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vz3nKZ

Not sure if I'm actually gonna build it, I wonder if cannonlake is worth it, and if it is, I don't mind waiting and in turn, raising both my budget and performance. My laptop is breaking down. But it's been like that since last year, to the point where I can sorta live with it...

It's a low power build so that power supply should do just fine. I've seen reviews of it, does the job for what I need it to do.

You do NOT need 16 GB of ram unless you're doing heavy gaming. I recommend 8 GB.

Hmmm

Would it be better to keep my ram at 8gb and upgrade it in 2018 because I heard that's when the prices for ddr4 are expected to go down due to supply and demand... If 8GB does well on BF1 at 1080p...

Aerocool is a budget company in the UK. I do see these power supplies being used in 'popular' prebuilt machines, and for my uses it should do the job.

Just need it for the OS and essential applications. Games stored on hard drive, as it's always been for me.

60gb will be in reality around 40- 50gb

Windows can take up to 25-30gb

Leaving you mere 10ish gb for everything else

Popular =/= good quality

And prebuilt is known for putting crap psu in their pc

Get a corsair cx540m

Replaced it with a 700W psu, definitely no load on it and this power supply is comparable to the EVGA 80+ series, which does what I need it to.

Don't confuse it with a generic power supply.

I'm not talking about OEM prebuilt, I'm talking about custom pc builders.

This is a budget machine and the power supply delivers for that purpose.

60GB SSDs are hell to live with. its horrible, its not close to enough. i cant honestly recoment a SSD under 240GB because under that you just run out of space really quick. i would wait for the Ryzen 3 chips for this and grab one of them probably.  PSU seems shady, 16GB of RAM is too much get 8GB and get the RX 470 or a bigger SSD instead

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

if you can wait for ryzen r3 ( you will have to wait for 3-4 months), do it, It will give you a quad core for 130$ , then don't buy a 700w psu that comes from a crappy company, buy a good 450-500w from corsair-evga and companies like that.

Get a bigger ssd

Do you think the CPU will last for 2/3 years? I don't think I'm gonna upgrade from my RX 470 until after that, depends how long it is until 4K makes 1080p obsolete. Probably sooner than I think, but heck, people still play on 720p so not sure.
