FX-9590 worth it?

Not necessarily in the used market (the best boards for it are rather old any way). But still...

Not worth $150, especially if you want to overclock: you may as well get any 83xx and overclock that. Remember that "heavy overclocking" a 9590 amounts to not leaving it at stock and cooling it properly. At the right (i.e., lower) price for 2017 it can appeal to someone who doesn't want to overclock himself, but wants an FX chip with maxed out clocks. Anyone willing to take the trouble of manually OCing should skip the 9590 (probably any 9xxx, depending on pricing), get a sub-100 used (sometimes even new) 83xx and have fun overclocking that. The slight binning isn't worth it in my opinion.

No, a motherboard that would support this CPU would need to be expensive. Wait for the Ryzen R5 and build an overclocked rig around that. It should be released fairly soon.

So I've heard that AMD chips can actually perform pretty well with oc so cause im planning on a very heavy overclock wondering if its worth it

thx :)

Nope. An i5 6600k can be found going on sale for under 200$ nowadays and is a much much faster chip.

No, the only AMD CPU'S you should be looking at are Ryzen.

Unless you love fires, please no. Frankly, I'd rather get a i5 7600 over as it doesn't need a crazy motherboard.

Horribly outdated, so no. Even if you overclock the hell out if it, it will still lag FAR behind any of the recent CPUs from Intel or AMD.

Even if you had a FX 9590 it can't be pushed much further.

Only way it'll ever go fast is for a CPU-Z validation + LN2.

At this point, the only AMD CPUs that are viable are the new Ryzen chips (Ryzen 7 is not meant for gaming, wait for Ryzen 5 for that)

A nice i5 or i7 will be better if you don't want to wait.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

With an 83xx, what's the difference between the 8300, the 8320 and the 8350?

if oc, is getting the 3800 the best thing?

Stock clocks, and therefore rated TDPs in some cases.

You must take into account that no one can guarantee any particular OC beyond stock clocks. But with that in mind, yes, I would expect the 8300/8320E, or any 83xx you find the cheapest, to be the better value, as I expect all of them to do 4.0GHz fine, and beyond that it's a lottery. Especially 4.7GHz (the 9590 stock) isn't granted, although the 9590 tends to default to ridiculous voltages anyway :P

My experience is restricted to two CPUs (an 8370E and a 9370) that clocked similarly; if anything, the 8370E took less voltage to achieve the same clock (but different mobos, so...). The experiences of others seem to confirm I'm no exception.

Thanks!

btw power consumption and heat output are definitely not concerns :)

Well, to keep the undecided and the two r9 290xs cool I'm planning a custom loop with two 360 rads :)

and a 220w tdp is no concern either ;)

Are you building a nuke!?

You have enough for custom water cooling But you're going to cheap out on an old generation processor!?

Why cheap out on the processor !?

It's an extra 150 for an i7 or the new AMD chips!!

My brain! O.o

well to me the watercooling was the most important thing

that may seem weird but my money for hardware is basically budget-watercooling=cpu/gpu/mobo/ram/case

and power is no concern because got a thermaltake 1200w touphpower psu and some other smaller ones for free :)
