Which makes a better budget card, the RX480 or the 1060. I'm mostly going to play H1Z1 KOTK and CS:GO until I upgrade my other parts so I can play BF1. I'm certain I'm going to be playing at 1080p and I also am planning on keeping the better deal for the next few years, so which seems like the better card?

I'll second that.  RX 480 8GB is a rock solid card for 1080p!

1060 if you care about compatibility, 480 if you don't. Good at dx12 didn't mean anything to me if I was getting artifcating on openGL stuff with advanced lighting.

It's all personal use. My 1060 provided a more enjoyable experience vs the RX 480 I sent back. (Apparently the openGL artifacting issue was thanks to AMDs legendary drivers and was a problem introduced since the fury days)

I had just the opposite of you.  I had a 1060 6gb and had nothing but issues.  Switched to the rx 480 4gb and have had none.  Yes...I know I should have got the 8 gb but I got a good deal on this one.  And I'm working on the OC now a bit more.

I've been using the 1060 since it came out overclocked to 2.1Ghz. Pure joy actually. However, the 480 apparently has better DX12 and Vulcan performance.

I'd be tempted to say the 480 is better suited to handle future titles, but by the time DX12 and Vulcan makes inroads, both cards will be obsolete.

My opinion is that you can't go wrong with either one, although going from AMD to Nvidia with my 1060, drivers and compatibility is better on the Nvidia side.
