Help Controlling CPU Fan Curve

I have just recently put together a rig using old hardware, everything is fine except that when I tried plugging the Intel stock cooler on the cpu-fan header on the motherboard (Asus P5KPL-AM) it did not function, I tried then the chassis-fan header (3pin) and then the stock cooler worked, problem is... it is running on maximum speed regardless the workload making it loud without need on idle.

 

I tried Using speedfan but couldn't get it to work, I have to hand this computer in a couple of hours and while it is fully functional the excessive noise from the cpu cooler is not desirable, Also Q-Fan on BIOs is enable though that caused no habit difference, I may not have fully gone through it though as this BIOs is fairly outdated (supports a Core2Duo so yeah...) If any one has any idea I'm open to it.

Yes the cooler is 4 pins but the chassis-fan header only 3 pin, I know that limits the control to the voltage, but that is okay as long as it does decrease the noise on low workload

You think that I won't be able to do it via-software? I will give it a longer look on the BIOs... darn... everything went so fine considering it is all old parts but then this little issue had to happen xD

It detected the fan and showed it is running on max, around 3000rpm, the issue is that I couldn't edit anything from it, I kept clicking on the fan line entry and just nothing happened.

you need to configure speedfan properly. Follow this thread to do it:

Most people assume that you install it and just move the sliders, there is a lot more to it.
