Okay so bought my 3TB NAS Drive of Amazon and then mounted it into my PC. Pull up disk management and its already separated into 2 partitions. I go "That's strange.." Allocated the main 2TB space and have this un allocated space of 750+ GB just sitting there mocking me...

Thx for reading.

What is your system specifications (e.g. CPU, motherboard, Operating System, etc) ?

If you are, by any chance, using Windows 7, then that might be a problem.

Windows 7 does not natively support 3TB or larger storage drives using LBA format -- you need to use GPT.

Additionally to that, you may need to check if your motherboard can support 3TB or larger drives, AND if there are any necessary drivers to do so.

This limitation was resolved with Windows 8 / 8.1 and later, with the introduction of EFI / UEFI BIOS.

Right click on the healthy partition and delete the volume.  You should then be able to right click and create a new volume with full size.  Make sure you max out the available size in the next window.

Yeah, you initialized the drive as MBR more than likely (2TB limit). You need to change it to GPT.

Oh yeah specs. i5 4590, GTX 970, 12GB Corsair RAM,  MSI B85-G41

I just noticed that you happen to have your system specs listed in your personal profile (please still provide that on your thread next time regardless), and you have Windows 10.

In that case, are you able to:

  1. Right-click on Disk 1
  2. Select Convert to GTP Disk

Sounds like it worked.  When I saw the drive split, I could see that you chose MBR instead of GPT.  As indicated above, MBR has a 2TB limit.  You should be good now.
