1060 or Rx480?

I stream and I game on a 1080p monitor. 1070 is attractive but is a little too expensive. Any specific card recommended are welcomed too.

streaming is very CPU demanding so keep that in mind, to do such multi-task you will need at least a decent i7, if you already are on a lower tier with the CPU then you might consider recording with shadowplay+1060 for youtube and such instead. Your rendering will be slow but doable with an i5.

I had better experience with Shadowplay than Relive if you stream that way. If OBS get whatever is cheaper.

RX480 is better simply because it's cheaper, and has better support for DX12/Vulkan.

in DX11 they are within 1% of eachother

NOTE: The RX480 is IMO better in performance (very slightly) and in price, which drives me to my conclusion. shadowplay might push you to spend the extra 20-50USD on a GTX 1060 if you deem it worth.

I know this might sound dumb but is the 1070 really worth it? Like I've always gone budget but I don't know if I should get it instead of the rx480

As a general rule of thumb, it's better to get a sweet spot card, like the RX480, for $180, and then replace in in 3 or so years, than to get a higher end card, like the 1070, and replace in in 4-5 years.

this is because with the $200 you saved by not buying a GTX 1070, you can now buy another mainstream $200 card in 2020, which will be much better than the 1070, and will cost you the same amount of money in the long run.

 

only buy the 1070 if you are gaming in more than 1080p, or cannot stand anything but Ultra settings, and are willing to pay $200 for it.

The 1070 is a 2560x1080p to 1440p card, you are on normal 1080p so for your specific case it is not worth it unless you want to get every single graphical thing max out on the latest titles and keep a somewhat future proof.

I will second this card. Sapphire is probably my favorite manufacturer of AMD graphics cards. Great support and always reliable.

For 1080p gaming, 1070 is definitely overkill.

Between 1060 and 480, I personally recommend 1060 (that's what I ended up buying as well), because most games you play are probably DX11, so 1060 will give you better frame rates, and also Shadowplay is a great bonus.

majority of AAA games coming out are natively supporting DX12, now is not a great time to buy a DX11 card if that's what you're banking on

If that's the case and many of the games you play do support DX12, then I would highly recommend RX480 as well. After all, you should be looking for cards that would yield the best performance in games you actually play.

hence my statement that the RX480 is better than the 1060.

 

also, DX11 will still be relevant for a good while, as some cards don't support DX12.

Even the Geforce GTX 500 series, some 400 series, and Radeon r5 series support DX12

 

if you have a computer older than that, you need to upgrade to run new games anyway
