I am currently using the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclocked ACX2.0 card

it features 2gb of GDDR5.

I don't know whether i need more than 2 gigabytes but i have ran into some minor issues with the lack of memory.

I don't have a huge budget so i can't go for like an rx 480 or 1070 so yeah...

lower ur textures and keep gaming

Sometimes, It's both Shadows and Textures you drop.

Sometimes, it's also ugly as hell, other games, not so much..

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Lowering AA could help a lot.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Yeah I think 2GB is getting a bit limited for the newest games today.

4GB should be fine for the forseeable future. (next 2-3 years). So RX 470 or RX480. I would not get the 1060 3GB version. If you want Nvidia, get the GTX 1060 6GB or higher.

Unless you get a 1070 or 1080, the card will be too slow to handle the load before it runs out of Vram anyway. (for example, the GTX 1060 6GB will likely run out of Core power before it ever gets to use the full 6GB).

you might have trouble with W10 doing stuff in the background.

wasn't there some kind of patch or update would have fixed that?

res is 1680x1050 yes?

Windows doing stuff in the background should not take up VRAM, only system memory and CPU power.

Running out of VRAM has very specific symptoms.Your FPS suddenly drops VERY low, because it cant fit all the textures inside of the VRAM.

It's not a huge deal, but I tend to stick to the 4gb mark minimum, and if you went to 8gb from that you'd see probably around a 10% increase in performance. And like @XenosTech said if you're using a 1080p monitor I would snag a 470... I got one for $135 on a daily deal on Newegg a while ago.

guess I should have explained that the slow ups or whatever might not be the card but background processes.

Could be, but unless you have some serious malware or bloatware on your PC, the background processes should not have that big of an impact.

If he is really experiencing drops from lets say 30fps down to 10fps, it is likely due to VRAM.

cpu could be getting hot. stock coolers suck. so does lack of maintenance. /cleaning

I have a 750Ti 2GB I've recently decided on checking on how well it's doing in benchmarks, i found watch dogs 2 uses a just over 5GB VRAM and I installed all my mods on gta 5 and it used just over 6GB so around 5-6 Gb's if you want to keep gaming on high to ultra, i've decided on the MSI 480 8GB cos its onnly 200 right now on newegg but if you want i'll find you a decent gpu just tell me your budget.

it would be due to vram because when playing gta 5, every once in a while it will go from like 80fps all the way down to 20
