Gaming PC for Bro

GeekJump

TLDR: Gaming PC for ~750.

What I go so far...I stopped when I realized I was near budget w/o a gpu or mobo so help is needed dropping it down :) -> https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9bVCqk

My brother has tasked me with making him a gaming PC. He has been a console gamer since before I was born but has been disheartened by them constantly releasing new iterations back to back (slim, pro, special editions, etc.) and finally had enough! So he is giving me a bit of his tax return for some fun :3. He originally started the convo with "make me a PC like yours but with current parts and smaller". So, while I'm open to suggestions for any parts, the case he wants is the Define Mini C (or similar).

Aim:

Gaming. He wants this in time to get Andromeda at launch (March 21, 2017). He also wants to be "future proof" for at least the next few years of new releases. He doesn't have plans to OC.

Budget:

He said $1000 total so I'm guessing ~$750 for the actual PC. If it goes over a bit it's okay, just need room for peripherals. Monitor suggestions are also welcomed.

Location:

United States of 'Merica.

Color Scheme:

Red...>_>

Both. Black with red accents is okay to.

He has an old 1080p monitor but wants to upgrade if it's within budget.

Not really. He just said smaller than mine. He thinks my R4 is a monster.

You're going to fast for me XD. I'm still looking at the other links you sent. Which I guess is a good problem to have.

Why go with the 480 over a 1060? He already has that monitor (or similar model). A good keyboard isn't majorly important (He tried out my keyboard and didn't understand why it cost $150) since he is mostly going to play single player games and plans to use a controller. A decent mouse is always needed.

For performance they're equal, but the price is almost always lower for the 480. Also another curious bit, the 1060 3g doesn't perform nearly as well as the 1060 6g because its a cut-down version. but the 480 4g is almost equal to the 8g. (in 1080p, when the extra Vram isn't needed.)

The Red Devil RX480 has some pretty shitty cooling though.

480 is already equal to the 1060 in most games, and better in DX12/Vulkan - More vram and it's getting better with newer drivers.

Would downgrading the cpu to an i5 and putting the money saved towards a 1070 be better? It'd be a little more but would the performance be worth the extra $40-50 in the long term after swapping the cpu
