Hey guys, I found a place where I can buy myself a model M for $80 AU. Yay or Nay?

Where do you think I should try to get one of these keyboards? I have recently entered the happy world of mechanical with a quickfire TK and I want to see how good the model M really is. would be of great help.

Thanks.

Well if you really want to try one then go ahead. They are great. I still have mine that my dad bought for our first computer. It is truly and amazing keyboard, so solid.

My first mechanical keyboard was a model M, I still have it though I have since switched to Cherry MX switches. Model M keys feel different but they are nice. And the keyboards last forever. Really, that was their biggest problem, their failure rate was so low that they couldn't make money off them, not even joking.

Model M, like Model F, is part of keyboard history, so if you feel it's worth the $80 AU, I ain't going to talk you out of it. I have a Lexmark Model M circa 1993, great keyboard that was built so well, failure rate is next to zilch. Buckling Spring isn't for everyone though, it's heavy and is rather noisy when you bottom out......but I love it! I collect keyboards, and having at least one BS keyboard is a must for me......

Hmm, I might just wait until I actually have the dough to spare, I would love to try a BS keyboard (maybe not BS but buckling springs...) But maybe not at the stake of $80 going to possible waste if I don't like it as much as my MX browns.

Model M is really nice to type on and buckling spring keys have a unique feel. I have never used any other mech keyboard besides this one so I can't compare to Cherry switches but I think $80 is reasonable pricetag.

or ask an actual keyboard enthusiast?

not sure about AUD value, but $80 USD is fairly reasonable is the board is just dirty and none of the case is cracked.  it's up to you.

personally, i hate large keyboards and almost nothing is larger than a model m, so bucking springs are a no-go for me(even the SSK is ridiculous)

Actually it's Slick that has one and I'm pretty sure it is in need of repair so he doesn't have a fully functioning board.

What I really need is to be able to test a model M out.

I don't think I shall be buying the one that I found but I may be taking a trip to the guys house to have a chat and test.
