Wait for Ryzen, otherwise I'd possibly suggest a G4560 for 60hz gaming, since it'll be fine, and then you can just jump straight to the i7 7700K instead of being stuck with an i5, could probably fit it in that budget from the get go

3 monitors choices, all have free-sync, hence the 480

You'd want to go for 144hz if gaming is the main focus naturally

there's no reason to buy a 1070 for 1080p gaming

1080p 75hz TN

1080p 144hz TN

or 2160p 60hz IPS would basically never need to replace the 4k display, most games would need to be ran at 1080p high/ultra which upscales perfectly

Get a Define Nano S instead. That Evolv Mini is notorious for bad air flow from the front. I don't see a reason to go with a bronze PSU if willing to spend this much on a build. I would also wait for Ryzen and see if that's worth it.

Nice build!

What's the reasoning behind the 500GB SSD? I'd either get a 250GB, or perhaps a 1TB MX300.

Are you gaming at 1080p? I'd go with a 1060 if that's the case, unless it's a high refresh rate monitor.

Yea all in CAD, our dollar is ridiculous right now, $0.75 USD per $1.00 CAD. He's big into AAA gaming so I thought going a little higher end for him. However with Ryzen coming soon at figure might be better to see how things play out with that first.

Haha, I'm more surprised when the dollar is above $0.85 USD :P

Definitely wait for Ryzen and go from there.

Compared to an i5 the G4560 is pretty crappy.

If you're suggesting a 144hz monitor, the 1070 makes sense.

Most games the 480 will be pretty alright, and you get free-sync, as G-sync monitors are more expensive, there's also Vega down the line as well which would be faster than the 1070 at the very least

the i5 isn't bad, It's just that upgrade to an i7 later isn't really going to be worth it if you get the i5, and you can take the money saved with the G4560 and put it straight towards an i7, but Ryzen needs to hurry up in any event

Wow you guys are all awesome. Thanks for the input!

I was actually thinking about the 480 but I'm not so familiar with amd graphics cards so was a little hesitant.

Also not as familiar with small form factor cases so it's good to know about poor airflow in the Evolv.

As for the 500 go ssd, I only put it in there cause it was about the same price as a 250 go on the pcpartpicker website.

Swap out the Hyper 212 Evo with a CRYORIG H7.  It's slightly shorter, keeps it slightly cooler, and looks far better, all for the same price.  You should also switch to a ~240GB SSD to save money.  You won't put much besides Windows on it.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

The AMD GPU mostly lets you get a cheaper display with adaptive sync, generally about $100 or more for a G-sync display with the same specs

the RX 480 has managed to about catch up to the 1060 in DX11, and scales better in DX12/Vulkan when it's fully implemented in games, which should happen more often moving forward anyways

You can also crossfire the RX 480, though that's really dependent on the games played, can potentially get you near 1080 performance in some cases though

Also the XFX GTR is about the best 480 to buy, should hit 1400mhz no problem, but that card is mostly for playing with overclocking

I second this on the Cryorig H7.
