The best way to memorize forumulas in math is when you practice solving it. In fact, the best way in studying math is by practice solving problems. You cannot study math by reading or memorizing.

Knowing why the formula works is always good. Why is the area of a right triangle bh/2? Because b*h finds the area if it were a square, in order to convert that area to a triangle we divide by 2.

Even if you forget the formula you'll be able to figure that out because it more than just a bunch of letters and numbers jumbled together

Which  formula? :)

You can build rules for instance. A story behind it.

Easy formulas:

Cosine is a racist liar.

Sin (a+b)= cos (a)sin (b) +cos (b)sin (a)

But:

Cos (a+b)=cos (a)cos (b) +sin (a)sin (b)

Or it takes a minus sign when derived but not the sine.

Welll, it kinda depends on the formula, but usually I find it best to just repeated it to myself and write it out a few times :P It's how I remember a^2 = b^2 + c^2 - 2bcCosA (a = sqrt((b^2 + c^2) - 2bcCosA for the actual side length c:)

The cosine formula looks weird A.F. o.O Looks like a typical coder expression, you into computer coding ? YOU MISSED A BRACKET !!!!!! Mods, plz integrate LaTeX support in the forums :D Or do I have to make a request in the dedicated sub-forum ? And why do you need to keep rewriting it to remember that expression ? Just remember BPT and the scalene triangle with the normal from A ( the top point opposite to the second longest side which acts as the base ) used to derive the expression and you can remember it really easily :D

I am into coding with python :P also, I just find it easier to remember things if I repeat it to myself c:

Back in highschool I would write them down on paper and tape it in front of me on the wall. I eventually started memorizing them

I've never directly memorized a formula in my life. All you need is to understand how it works, and derive it when you need it. The ones that I have committed to memory are just ones that I've derived enough times to know the result.

It really helps to memorize them that way, because it's more natural and you're FAR less likely to make errors.
