Hello everyone,

I have narrowed down my new headphone purchase to 2 options

Option 1: Buy a HyperX Cloud II for $115 AUD

Option 2: Buy a Audio Technica ATH-M40X for $140 AUD

plus a Blue Snowball for $99 AUD = $239 AUD

I am interested whether or not the higher audio quality will justify the extra price?

Thanks in advance

Depends if you're an audiophile or not.

if you personally think that improved sound quality is worth the price difference, then go for it. if you don't care too much about audio quality, then don't pay the extra.

HyperX Cloud IIs have good audio quality, so they wont sound bad, they just wont sound excellent either.

Lube up the inside of your headphones.  Makes the sound come out smoother. ;)

I would go for option 1 if it's just for gaming, option 2 is better, no doubt about it, but you're spending $100 more. If you want the better sound quality go ahead with option 2. But if you need a headset/headphone/apache helicopter for gaming, option 1 is already a good choice.

That $100 can be used for going out with friends, hangout, or maybe a date, you get the idea i'm trying to convey. :P

If the M40X's are anything like the M50x's, then in my opinion they would be crap for gaming as the M50'x have a pretty shitty soundstage. (They are overrated IMO)

Im not really a fan of gaming headphones in general, that said I haven't heard the Clouds 2's before but have read that they are one of the better gaming headsets.
If you are only really using the headphones at home I would highly suggest that you go for open backed headphones instead.

Would you also be willing to go the used route. I have seen good deals on Gumtree in the past such as a guy selling his HD600's for 250aud.
I know Jack Shit about microphones but personally I would dedicate more of the budget towards the headphones.
