Okay so do you think i should just stick to getting an i5? I just don't want to get an i5 and find that I missed out on getting an i7

I recommend quad core i7

A quad core i5 could be a good option as well though.

@ramo55 If it's an i3, it will definitely be dual core.  If it's i5 or i7, it will probably be dual core.  Don't rely on the label there.  Find quad core ones and compare their Passmark scores to see which is more powerful for the money.

That passmark website is good, but it's gonna get me addicted lol. Every laptop I find is gonna be compared on this website. Sigh this is gonna be a long process to find the perfect laptop

But I would say quad core i7 would run out of my budget right? At least not with a dedicated graphics card

@JoostinOnline @Damascus What about an i5-6300hq? Would that be good for video editing and gaming? Also is it a good alternative to an i7? I read a comparison that said it's better for example than a i7-6500u

Yeah I don't mind second hand. Just checked now, and prices are around £1k second hand lol, don't think I'll find it one that's cheap especially since it's a fairly new laptop.

Btw thanks to everyone who is helping, appreciate putting up with me and my struggles!

Anything with 4 cores is better than a 6500u

I STRONGLY suggest you avoid ANY u SKU

You want to edit videos get a 6700HQ

Not a huge difference in gaming

So tldr from this is,

-anything with 4 cores is good

-stay away from cpu's that have a "u" in the name

-6700hq is the best option for video editing for me

Guys, relax about amazon and the sellers, In terms of buying from amazon, we in the uk dont purhcase our laptops from amazon unless we really need to. As far as that laptop goes, it looks nice, specs are nice, and price, however I have never in my life heard of that company, they might be an amazing company which make amazing laptops but I think for my investment I would safely prefer to go with something more known or at least something I've heard off.

Your suggestion for the msi gs60 is really good, the laptop as far as I can see is perfect for what I'm after but I don't believe that price is accurate because the laptop seems too good to be true

Aorus is the "gaming" brand of Gigabyte, kind of like Cougar to HEC or ROG to ASUS

That i5 would be good for gaming.  I have very little knowledge of video editing though, so I wouldn't feel comfortable saying either way.
