Is it safe to saw off part of my GPU?

Basically, it's getting in the way of my HTPC build. Part is outlined in red (lower left). Other than looks, resale value, warranty, and ability to SLI, will I break anything else?

Are there any etchings visible on the other side? You'd have to be very careful not to damage the connector as well.

 

P.S. Even if there aren't visible etchings, there could be some on a different layer internally, so it's still risky.

I'd modify a case before I started cutting of pieces of a pcb.

I would be worried, you are precariously close to part of the PCI connection that's visible, and you have NO idea what is or could be inside that part of the backplate.

 

I would to be sure, remove the backplate, and double check before making a move.

Make sure that there are no traces there. If there aren't you shouldn't run into any issues.

Your bank if it goes wrong.

As mentioned in a few posts before this one, it'll be more safe just to do a cut-out in the case rather than the GPU.

don't ever damage the PCB, it has traces in multiple layers, even if you can't see them, there might still be some and if you cut them you can't repair it
