CPU Problems

I have just gotten an AMD FX 8350 from my grandmother for Christmas and it came out of the box with crashes nonstop. I ran a stability test and it can't get more than a few minutes in without saying "hardware failure detected". Is there any possible fix without sending it back to get a new one? I haven't overclocked it and i even bought a beefier air cooler for it (cryorig H7). Any help or suggestions of what to try?

Check your connection to all your hardware. Maybe you got some dust in the socket.

Okay, tomorrow morning i will take it out and see if that works

after checking all the connections in your system you should revert your bios to default settings as something in the bios could be mis-configured. It would also help to know what kind of motherboard you're attempting to run this CPU on as some boards cant handle an 8 core FX, especially if you upgraded an OEM system.

Generally there's a restore default settings button that you can just tap and it will ask you if youre sure you want to revert to default. If the screenshots I found are the right ones then it should be F7 to revert to default settings once youre in the bios. It should have a list on the right that says what various F keys do. Be sure that you confirm your settings before you restart.

Imho its safer to do a clear cmos then loading optimized defaults in bios, your mobo manual should show you how its done, but for safety reasons i will tell you right now take out your PC power cable and wait 5 minutes before doing it (it usually discharges in a few seconds but  as i said precautions). If the CPU is brand new then i'd honestly suspect the PSU and mobo more for your issues, what PSU do you have btw ? Or it could be one more thing RAM, it might not get along with the ram FX's IMC are pretty whimsical.

I have four four gig sticks of crucial ballistix sport ram. I just got a new psu literally yesterday (EVGA GQ 650).

I did what you said it the stability test still gave me the same output " calculation test> hardware failure detected"

AMD Overdrive test? That means normally that the voltage is to low...

I just left it at stock settings i didn't tinker with the voltage or frequency

Maybe the board struggles to supply the CPU? ((if it has the option disable half the cores and see what happens))
