Anyone know on a price to price performance (meaning a CPU that cost about the same) how AMDs FX-9590 matches up against  intel processors.

The i5 6500 is around the same price and would be better in most cases

Its much worse. A i5 is normally about the same price or cheaper and much faster. Don't buy that 5 year old chip

EDIT: Also the FX 9590 is not good to pair with a budget motherboard

Perform much worse single threaded

But better in programs that  need lots of cores

It's not the same price when you account for the expensive boards (990FX boards with heavy VRM's) it requires, aswell as the watercooling to get rid of the 300W of power it can pull (220W is underrated).

 

The 6500 runs on budget H110 boards with a stock heatsink.

As well as no future upgrade whatsoever + ddr3 ram
