so somebody set up a petition to revert youtube comments back to the old ways. its very successful with over 20,000 signatures in the first few hours, they claim to need 25,000.

It's a clusterbleep at the moment as there new, on new videos it should work out better as it's getting fresh ratings etc.

Change.org specifically increases the "goal" each time you reach it. It's more of milestones, not an actual requirement for change to happen.

 

Watch, when the petition hits 25,000 it'll jump to 50,000. Again, Change.org does this, not the creator.

Sure they've merged youtube with G+.. But you don't have to use google + to just Watch videos on youtube and keep track of your subscriptions.

And with google as my start page i can easily access my Email and youtube. So i like it

The youtube comment section is just littered with suckup comments and people using the same old copy paste replies for quick recognition. Any change to that is good change.

If you use Google+, I don't really see why you would mind having extra functionality.

I actually linked my YouTube account with my Google+ account a while back because "why not?" It took all of two seconds (most of those seconds due to not actually having a G+ account) and didn't affect functionality at all. That said, I'd prefer that they work on figuring out why all videos default to 144p and don't have any option to change it except to wait until it gets so overbuffered that it bumps up to a higher resolution automatically, but it really didn't change anything worth noting.

The new commenting system is crap, basically there's no size limit anymore so the typical Youtube commenter approach has been to spam narratives and other extremely long comments. It also emails you when someone replies to your post, which people have been complaining about (spammy/crap replies, etc. etc.)

 

I'm sure there are other issues too but my biggest issue with Youtube comments is how little effort Youtube puts into encouraging good comments. The +1/-1 system doesn't seem to work particularly well and websites like Imgur/Reddit & Slashdot have implemented systems that promote good comments far better than Youtube's with many less changes and confusion.

My problem isn't the new comments, these are actually layed out pretty good... and you can still choose to see the most recent comments first.

 

My big problem is that youtube now doesn't let met comment unless i link with google +. I DON'T want my youtube account to use my real name, just like I don't use my real name on this forum or any other place on the internet except social networks and email. If I choose that I don't want to use my real name google decides to chop up my account into two useless accounts which leads to huge problems with signing into youtube on mobile apps. Not to even mention my other youtube account that is meant for uploading. I want to keep my two youtube accounts separated so I can upload with one and use the other one for all my subscriptions, commenting on videos, adding favorites and all that. I DO NOT want that account linked with my google account. 

 

In short google just broke my youtube, I can't comment unless I want to break my account even more... FFS

Have you even LOOKED at the comments? It's a seething mass of abuse, ASCII genitalia and virus-ridden links. They made the options for abuse worse somehow! And people using their real name are wide open to abuse by fake name trolls.
