Hello you guys,

I had a quick question, couple years ago I bought a ps4 which is currently sitting in my room, probably has not been touched in over 6 months. I work on a lot of simulations that lend themselves for parallel processing since the tasks to be carried out are not particularly intense, just have to do A LOT of them. I have seen a huge decrease in the time I spend running a simulation by accessing the other cores of my laptop (which has a quadcore processor). I have read that a ps4 has an 8 core cpu and was wondering, is there any way I can hook up my laptop in some way to tap in to the ps4´s cpu and use its processor to speed up my simulations? I would not mind if I can no longer use the ps4 for games and stuff.

Thank you!!

Hey man Im no Rocket Scientist but it seems to me that EVEN IF there was some way you could do that, the type of connections on the PS4 would be over saturated. What I mean is that the ports on it might not be able to handle that kind of thing. But dont give up hope man.

I remember supercomputers used to run a load of PS3's in parellel, because of it's cell architecture it was worth it but I don't think it's even possible to do with the ps4 pretty sure it ran some version of linux on the ps3s. I could be wrong but it's x86 so realistically it's not very fast compared with modern CPU and GPU hardware.

No, it's impossible.

It's soldered to the motherboard, it is not compatible with PC architectures, it does not have a direct link IO, and like a bajillion other reasons.

Yup, there sure is. You'll just need to get your hands on the same tools and equipment that fail0verflow used to hack away at the PS4 in the video below. Oh yeah, you'll also need to know how to reverse engineer bytecode. Then write your own API to interface with the CPU in the PS4. Sounds so easy, I expect a working prototype next week. /s

PS4 runs an OS that's based off of BSD iirc (in fact, I think it's built off of FreeBSD).

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

The video is showing 10 PS4's using their processing power on another pc to transfer human conscious to a file.

why may i ask, if you want to experiment for cheap get a pi. the ps3 was used for a supercomputer by the military because it was very advance for its time. the ps4 is underpower for its time most apu paired with a 750 ti can beat a ps4 at almost everything.  https://phys.org/news/2010-12-air-playstation-3s-supercomputer.html

seems like a solid option, reading in to it

You can also look at used dell poweredge or precision servers/workstations. They are cheap on eBay. Run Linux on those puppies and that could work too.
