Is my SSD dead?

Go to solution Solved by Inception9269,

From what I can see, that drive was released in March 2011, which is a month shy of 6 years ago. Typically with ssds especially older ones they probably won't fair well over the years due to the amount of writes they could take back then, especially since it's just a 64gb ssd, typically the lower the space the lower amount of writes it can take.

It's dead bro. Time to hold a funeral

My 64gb crucial m4 which had my OS on it is no longer detected in the BIOS.

Windows had been freezing and getting BSoD about half a week prior to failure, however a chkdsk scan and the S.M.A.R.T. monitor on speccy and came up all green the night before it failed.

What I'm wondering is can Windows become so corrupted it stops the BIOS from reading the drive?

Also, I've tested the drive with different SATA ports and cables and combinations of RAM configurations all with no luck.

I also ran the windows memory diagnostic the same night I did the other scans and it came up negative.

I have a few data HDDs hooked up that have had no issues during all this.

I've read of people using Ubuntu to read the drive so with all this considered does anyone think I have a shot?

P.S. SSD was purchased end of 2012 and was upgraded from windows 7 to 10 during the free upgrade.

If anyone knows if there's a way I can recover my 10 copy that would be super helpful as well.

Thanks in advance.

The BIOS won't care what the hell is on the drive. For all it could care, you could have an archive of all the porn ever made on it along with a load of malware and it will still get detected.

SSDs are more affordable now, and can lost longer.

If I had to recommend an ssd for a fair price I'd probably choose this Adata one here. Or this Sandisk one.

Them both being roughly the same price, the Adata one being a little cheaper in total if you buy from newegg, that listing having free shipping.

Sandisk and Adata are both good brands, I prefer Adata of the two. My very first ssd was an adata 128gb one that I got in 2014, me later putting it in my mom's laptop after i upgraded to a larger space ssd. With my best bro's pc that I built in early 2015 I believe I chose that same Adata ssd listed and it's proven reliable and durable.

I suspected as much myself, and is why I specified the age. I just wasn't sure of the likely hood of that, but if it's your first guess as well...

Thank you very much. I'll take your suggestions into consideration as well.
