K just a random thought, but like what if all the cables in your pc were fiber optic cables? Because fiber optics transmit light, you would put the cables in a place where you can see it, instead of hide it behind the back panel. And fiber optic cables are faster too, right? I know they obviously don't make fiber optic sata cables, but what do you think if they did? Thoughts on the idea?

You wouldn't see squat because you cannot have fiber optic cables in the open, that's not how it works, and even if you could it would all be red light.

Fiber optics can be used for any kind of data transfer really. The main issue though is that fiber optics cannot transfer power so that is why we dont see it everywhere. That and most fiber optic cables are far easier to break than traditional copper cables.

would it be any faster?

No. The cable's max theoretical bandwidth would be much faster, but the controller chips would not be. Likewise, it also wouldn't be SATA in the optical portion because SATA is specifically a physical interface over copper.
