Hilariously bad drawing of my airflow... thoughts?

takoofapoc

I am not an artist... so yeah. Anyone see any problems with how I have my fans set up? Gpu2 (980 ti), runs a little hot while playing more graphically intensive titles. I Think it got into the 90's while playing a heavily modded Fallout 4 in 4k, so I got a little scared and thought I would come here and see what you guys would recommend I change, if anything. Thank you in advance.

I would flip the bottom and the front top fan. More intake (Positive airflow) helps reduce dust buildup and is better for cooling, at least in my experience.

The reason GPU 2 would run hot is because GPU 1 is exhausting its hot air straight onto it. If the GPU is looking dusty blow it out with some compressed air.

I went ham on it with duster the other day.... Still noticing gpu2 in the 80's on some titles though. It probably helped, there was a decent amount of dust.

You can also remove the cooler and put some new thermal paste on, that should cool it down if you haven't replaced it for a while.

I'd put the bottom right fan as intake and not exhaust, you're just pulling the fresh cool air out right away. And yeah naturally GPU 2 would be a lot hotter because GPU 1 is exhausting down into it. I'm super anal about thermals and this is how I have my fans.

This is my setup: The front two fans and bottom fan are all intake. The top two fans and rear fan are exhaust. I do not have two cards in SLI but other than GPU and CPU temps I never see anything hit over 40 degrees C, even under very heavy use. Hope that helps!

I would give it a go, its not too hard and you shouldn't mess anything up if you are careful.

In all honesty i always try to have as many fans pushing air out as i do pulling air in, to me that just makes sense to have equal flow of air going into and out of a case :)

You're choking one of your cards. I'd recommend getting a blower for the top card, but I don't think I would bother this late into Maxwell. Can you separate the cards by a slot or two?

Not sure If my bridge is long enough for that. I never tried it because I thought the cards would have access to less pci lanes or something... not sure if that is correct or not.

Any 8x or higher slot is fine. Best thing would be to look for a longer SLI bridge giving them more breathing room.

For the cpu or gpu's?

The 750D has pretty shoddy airflow and was designed for liquid cooling. Attaching a fan at the front of the graphics cards pushing air between them shoudl also help.

Dust filters and other obstructions are often on intakes and not exhausts which significantly lowers airflow. Unless rpm's are adjusted to compensate for this, an intake usually doesn't have bring in as much air as a similar exhaust fan does.

CPU, I feel like liquid cooling on my cards would be kinda costly... That extra fan sounds like a good idea, will have to look at what I can find on newegg, or amazon.

Why get it for the cpu? Your temps should be fine with the NH-U12S.

If you want to get liquid cooling, it should be for the graphics cards first. A 120mm AIO and bracket shouldn't be more than a 240/280mm rad.

Thank you, I might just invest in a liquid cooler and flip that bottom fan then...

That would probably help significantly, but I would be afraid to mess it up haha. I have seen it done with relative ease, I am just a bit skittish...

Even without a liquid cooler that bottom fan should be for intake and not exhaust.
