Try Dishonored (the first one, i haven't played the second one yet), it has a really good story and you can choose how you play the game. You can either go around killing everyone you come across or you can be stealthy and slip past everyone, your choice of playing style will also affect other aspects of the game further on.

They both look like great games! maybe ill get them, any other suggestions?

Single-player games? Uhh

  • Fallout 3
  • Skyrim
  • Dishonored
  • CoD Ghosts single-player is pretty good imo
  • Dying Light (though co-op with friends is even better)
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Shadow of Mordor
  • Batman Arkham Knight
  • Half-Life 2
  • Just Cause 2 and 3
  • Metal Gear Rising Revengance is pretty cool
  • Spintires
  • Minecraft
  • Thief
  • Watch Dogs
  • Watch Dogs 2
  • Space Engineers

And I just took those from my Steam library. I don't like playing or buying bad games. And a lot of people would disagree with my list, such as CoD ghosts, Watch Dogs  because it wasn't what they expected. For me Cod Ghosts Multiplayer was also very good, it being my first CoD experience. Also I loved the first Watch Dogs game, played it 3 times through, atm going for 100%, but I am not even half way in WD2.

You need to play Doom and Shadow Warrior 2. Those 2 are super fun run and gun shooters that I keep going back to even tho I've beaten them both.

Dishonored 2 (even better than the first)

Try the newest Deus Ex Mankind Divided. it's a big improvement on the past ones with more focus on combat.

Far Cry Primal (was surprisingly fun)

Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain

Overwatch

DragonAge Inquisition

Mass Effect 2 and 3 (you have to at least play 3, especially since Andromeda comes out soon)

Star Citizen (not complete yet but theres good pvp and vandul swarm + the mini persistant universe, + its a good time to get in while its cheap to get the whole package, single player Squadron 42 should be out by the year's end)

Inside (short but really good, same people who made Limbo)

Games Coming Soon:

Mass Effect Andromeda

For Honor

Nier Automata (it comes out at the end of February if you like fast action games with rpg aspects)

Ahh I would personally advise Black Ops 1 if you want to play a CoD for the campaign, Watch Dogs at least the 1 shouldn't be bought by any one in my opinion, that game was Ubisoft's worst creation ever, aside from it the list is solid, really liked that you included Half-Life 2, it is true that game is still up-to-date even by today.

LMAO I'm crying right now, mass effect 3 would be the worst game to get an idea of what the series is like and it won't affect andromeda at all so that is the least important game out of the original trilogy to play before playing andromeda.

Im quite surprised you left out the first game, why?

I wasn't suggesting it because it'll effect Andromeda (since for all we know it won't at all), I was suggesting it just because it's a great game. My Favorite is ME2 and ME3 personally, but they're all good. I just figured he would be able to get through at least that one before Andromeda releases. It'll get him a good sense of how the game plays and some backstory as well.

Playing the whole series is preferable but if op can only play one out of the three before andromeda it should be the second. The third is nearly entirely different from the first 2, so not the best to use as a reference for what the whole series is like. The third has nearly no dialogue trees compared to the second and first, everyone just seems flat and feels like the have no depth in the third game. The devs think that because you already know a lot about them from the previous games that they don't need to have any more character building and relationship building in the third game. Even in the citadel dlc the most you can do for the most part is click e and listen to them say the same things over and over, no dialogue options. It also adds some new features (though I kinda liked them) that were very different from the previous games such as the war room and all of that related stuff.

In short the third mass effect stands out from the previous 2 in good, bad, and odd ways. Which in my opinion makes it not the best game of the three to get an idea of what the entire series is like.

Also im not saying it's bad, just not the best of the three to learn what mass effect is all about and what it's like. That should probably go to the second. It has tons of history and builds the characters and relationship with your entire crew better than the third and slightly better than the first. It also has tons of dialogue options (I would still prefer more though) and they come up frequently.

The Mass Effect trilogy. This is my favorite game series ever and I have spent nearly 800 hours in almost 9 playthroughs. It has one of the best story lines of any game.

I'm on my 3rd play through and only have around 150 hours. Did you skip the talking scenes you've already seen?

I do not. My playthroughs tend to be near 100% completion. A playthrough of the trilogy for me takes about 90 hours of gameplay. I like exploring how the different decisions effect the dialog and events throughout the game. It's subtle but characters will make small comments about the interactions you have had with different characters in the past and even how particular conversations were handled. It is also interesting to explore how the conversations between squad mates in missions change depending on the pairing as well as past events. As such I find it worthwhile to still have all conversations to see how I can manipulate the rest of the game. While the series big decisions tend to be obvious in their potential impact by your 4th or 5th playthrough you start to notice how every interaction can have a small impact later on.

I have to disagree with you on ME3 a bit though. While I agree that ME2 was the best mechanically I feel that the story was very weak. It really just serves to introduce the new characters. Just look at how there are only 6 main plot missions with the majority of the game being spent recruiting squadmates and completing their loyalty missions. The overall plot of the Collectors feels meaningless and in my opinion only serves to provide insight into Cerberus and the Illusive Man. There is no impact and the influence it has over the following events pales in comparison to that of ME1.

On the other had I agree with you that ME3 was missing a lot of the mechanics which were perfected in ME2. It definitely could use some more dialog options. You can see the points where the previous games would give you choices to control the tone of the conversation but ME3 doesn't. ME3 gives up some of your ability to roleplay a character and instead favors only giving you a dialog option when it changes the direction of the conversation. I do feel like the conversations you can have with your squadmates give you better control over the tone of the conversation than the conversations presented along the main story do.

I do not feel that you need more decision control over the story though. ME3 is really about desperation against huge odds and I feel they do a very good job at conveying that. Unlike the first two games where you are acting as a lone gun and are free to act as you see fit, in ME3 you are a small part of something much bigger so it makes since that you are not the one making the big decisions. This is laid out early in the game when you act as a mediator for the Turians, Salarians, and Krogan. You don't get to cry for or against curing the Genophage like you would have in the earlier games because that is no longer your decision to make. It's up to the leaders of the races now, you are the little guy.

I don't think the game needs more character development than it already has. By the 3rd game you have known the characters for years and have been to hell and back with them. It would be awkward to still be learning more about them and their past beyond what has happened since the last time you saw them. Do you ask your friends about their history and past when you have known them for 5 years? ME3 did a really good job of writing the characters and their relationship with Shepard and has them interacting a joking like a group of friends who have known each other for years would.

Personally ME3 is my favorite of the trilogy. It's main plot has the most depth and impact of any of the games and it really draws in the players choices and relationships from the previous games and makes them mean something. Yes the ending is a disaster and some of the mechanics are reduced or removed but I feel the story more than makes up for those shortcomings.

I didn't say it had the best story, I was mostly talking about how it was best at developing the characters and building relationships.

As for character development I think there is no such thing as too much. I'm still learning new things about friends I've known all my life (which is weird because I've spent most of my time with them like what the hell when did they do that). And a big part of what I mean by relationship building is between the character and you as a player (not as Shepard), they darn near perfected this in the second game. If they focused a lot on connecting the character to Shepard rather than finding ways to reach out and actually build a relationship between the character and you, then character deaths wouldn't be as meaningful, they'd be like any other game where you'd be like "oh no he died, I should go replay it so he can survive". whereas what they actually did (for me at least) was if a character died I'd think "Wow, that kinda hurt, I should go replay and save this character because I kinda feel bad now". It doesn't necessarily have to be with characters dying but other things as well like how each character feels about each other and interacts with each other as well.

and as far as skipping conversations go, I don't normally choose different dialogue options quite as much (I guess something just kinda blocks me from choosing renegade options haha) so I get the same scenes and what not. Only rarely do I choose the middle or renegade options in my other play through, and I've found that sometimes the conversation stays exactly the same even if I chose a different option. That kinda bummed me, learning that quite a bit of the control and options I thought I had I didn't really have, they just made me think I had that control and all those options. I suppose I will eventually get around to an all renegade play through, but that'll be some time.

You seem to like first person shooter games.

I'll suggest DOOM, as has been suggested above. Best FPS I've played in a while. Very very fun and replayable. Lots of exploring to do if you want to collect everything.

I'll also suggest the Mass effect games (as have been suggested above.) The story for the last one is.... meh, especially the original ending, but they are still good games.

Also, I'd hold off on subnautica. I bought it. It's buggy as hell. It crashes every 30 minutes (and that's improved from every 3 minutes until I updated absolutely every driver on my computer.) Sure, it looks fun when you watch people play it online, but look at their faces when it freezes up. They know the pain, they experience the crashes all too often.

OH yea, I forgot to add Skyrim!

If you have not played it, you NEED to play it. Do not miss out on that game.

Especially now that they've released Skyrim Special Edition.
They moved Skyrim over to the updated engine that Fallout 4 uses. They're also

using high resolution textures, new lighting, depth of field, and a bunch of other visual improvements.

Basically it looks just as good if not better than a highly modded version of Skyrim.

Oh and it comes with all of the DLC (both the Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLC are great)

Skyrim is the game that turned me onto RPG's. I literally spent over 2000 hours in it.

Not only is the main game great, but there are so many mods available for it.

Want new spells? sure, new armor and weapons? no problem. Want a new questline?

New areas and islands to explore? new races?  Whatever you want to add or change,

I guarantee there's already a mod made for it.

Oh, and since you like FPS games like me, try using the bow and arrow for your main weapon,

it's so satisfying to get long range headshots! lol

(bow from a distance, 1 handed sword+spell for up close=so fun)

Have fun!
