So I ran across this software called process lasso https://bitsum.com/

 

basically like an advanced task manager for windows, so it can automate cpu affinities and priorities, among its features (like trimming RAM consumption). but i'm not sure whether this makes a noticeable difference, or is it like snake oil? 

think the gaming mode 2.0 the software suite comes with is interesting, because when you read the description it sounds like Windows 10's upcoming game mode.

Changing application priority will only make a difference if one of your applications is pinning your CPU at 100% and you're trying to do something else.

Complete waste of money, just let windows work normally.

If yo need more performance then the only way to get it is by upgrading your hardware.
