I7 will be better

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

If you can afford it, a 2011-3 processor would always be far better for video editing/rendering/cad

Completely agree with the above, if you can stretch the extra $$$ (or wait for Ryzen) and the focus is purely production I would get X99

 

Of the 2 offered, grab the i7 if waiting/extra $$$ for X99 are a no go

The i7, you get 8 threads with hyperthreading. And the i7-6700 is arguably one of the best core-to-core performing CPU's made to this day. I chose to get an i7-6700k over an i7-6800k and have no regrets at all, my system performance is amazing.
