Weird sounds from computer when scrolling?

Ah, that's probably fine. It's probably the EVGA G1 / G2.

Yeah, sadly once you have coil whine, it can't really be fixed easily...usually have to RMA, but they usually won't accept it because coil whine isn't a defect (The GPU works fine with it).

My computer used to be under my desk but I just put it back on my desk to circulate a bit more air. I realized that when I scroll certain pages or pdf files, there's like a little short whirring sound from somewhere in my computer.
I don't think it's a big deal but it also makes a similar sound when I play games like League of Legends. It's really annoying having to hear it and I think I know why I put it under my desk in the first place. It's also pretty hard to tell where the sound is coming but I think it's from the hard drive. Anyone know what I should try doing?

That sounds like coil whine from the GPU (Though that's quite bad). What are your full system specs?

i3 4160

r9 390

8gb ram

1tb hdd

250gb ssd

I think I've heard from someone else that it might be coilwhine too.. Not sure how bad it is tho

It is coil whine coming from the gpu. The same thing happens to me when I scroll on some webpages an so on.

It happens because some programs have hardware acceleration for better performance, so it uses your gpu to render some stuff just like it was a game, which puts load on the GPU and that makes coils whine.

CPU: i7 3770K | MB: EVGA Z77 FTW | RAM: HyperX Savage 2400Mhz 16GB | GPU: R9 280X Toxic | Cooler: Scythe Fuma | PSU: CoolerMaster B600

SSD: Crucial MX300 525GB | HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB - Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB

Coil whine varies a lot depending on GPU. Some GPUs have it really bad, some do not. If you want to test, you can remove your GPU temporarily and use the iGPU with the CPU to see if you still hear noise.

Also, what PSU do you have? Some low grade PSUs can contribute to coil whine sometimes.

Right the psu, uhhhh I don't rememeber exactly but I made sure to get a decent one, I think it was the EVGA Supernova 650w with 80+ gold
I'll try the igpu and see if it still makes the sound

Well shit, the gpu is like about a year old so anything to do with returns or rma's are super unlikely. I guess I'll try and ignore the sound :(

If you're lucky though, the sound will still be there with the iGPU / no GPU. That could be a PSU coil whine (Though the EVGA G1/G2 is pretty high end and I haven't seen anyone report coil whine for it...usually the cheaper PSUs like the Corsair Cseries PSUs).

You'll definitely know your answer if you have no noise with the iGPU.

Even if it's the PSU, the coil whine may still go away using the iGPU due to the smaller load put on the PSU.
