zen cpu would be a nice improvement and depending if you´re happy about the GPU performance maybe swap this too for a 480 or something

why should you hurry with upgrades, the money doesnt run away once you have it in your "pc-upgrade piggybank "

Salvage the HX850 from his current machine.

OP, wait for Ryzen or go Z270.

7700K + that G Skill kit and a decent board (personal recommendation is the MSI Gaming M5)

Maybe a 1080 alongside that? You'd kick ass at 1440p.

Ryzen is meant to be a replacement of the current FX series.

idk

an air 540 looks good with a x99 system in my opinion. best option for OP is to wait for ryzen.

Am I going to notice a large difference between x99 and z270?

You would be a fool not to wait now though, rumoured release for Zen is end of February, availability may not be great, but at least you will have an idea on performance. If Zen is a no go on release I would something like:

I would wait for Ryzen and get that or x99. Since your monitor is freesync, i wouldn't recommend getting the 1070 or the 1080. The 390x is stil very capable. Wait for Vega.

So maybe hold on to the R9 390x for now, get an i7 and set the rest of the money aside for when vega comes out?
