painting my rx 480. will it work?

danavinette

i am planning to paint my msi gaming x rx 480 white but i was thinking if this part of the cooler will look good: http://prntscr.com/e0fgto  because that part is transluscent plastic so i am wondering if it will still look red-ish even if i paint those stripes on both sides because the plastic will still be red on the inside. i am only planning to paint white the red parts of the cooler and the backplate, also how good do you guys think it will look overall? i haven't seen anyone painting these specific coolers from the last gen of cards.

i see some red glare there but i am not sure if it comes from the plastic or the leds itself. not sure if the leds are red

they're RGB LED's, what use would you get out of painting them other than blocking out the light??

they're not rgb as far as i know. the logo is the only one that's rgb. i mean if the light is strong enough it could go through the  paint

If you paint it light won't shine through, you can dye the plastic and change the LED's if they are on a small board.

Only the Logo is RGB the translucent ribs are red plastic and are single color LED's.

Seems odd why they wouldn't make it all RGB when you already have the controller and such built in.

yes, such i shame. i guess i will paint the cooler and if it looks red or something i will just let the rib leds off.

are the ribs red plastic for certain or are they clear and painted red? as im curious if the OP could remove the red from the ribs and be left with probably a frosted white.

They're red transparent plastic so unfortunately not too much can be done unless they replace those ribs if they wanted it to still light up.

bummer, and with a transparent paint id say the best that could be gotten with a ton of layers would be... pink, and probably no light coming through from the amount of paint it would take
