Hi

I just installed my new 7700K and the temps look a bit weird. When launching Google chrome the temps jump to 60-80 decrees and under stress it goes near 100 C. The CPU seems to idel on 31 ish celsius in  a not very hot room. I have a thermaltake frio silent 12 cooler. Should I try to install the cooler again if there is bad contact or could there be something else wrong?

check the cooler, check your voltages.

Sounds like a classic case of a semi-mounted cooler where it's dissipating enough heat while the CPU is idling but isn't properly mounted where it's working as intended :)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

What? As I said, there seriously is nothing here :)

The smallest amount of space between cooler and cpu make the cooler useless. Like others said, check the cooler.

What's the ambient temp of the room, approx?

Are you running it overclocked?

Could be cooler isn't firmly mounted maybe. I always mount mine where I literally cannot tighten it any further by hand strength.

Thanks for the answers. The contact seemed fine when I took it apart. I cleaned and reapplied thermal paste and tightened the heat sink more securely into the mb and now on intel burn test it reaches up to 100 C. I still don't know if that is too much? The ambient room temperature is around 22 and 23 C. And I haven't overclocked the cpu in any way. It seems to draw max 1.38 volts but hovers around 1.35 most of the time. And the fan is set on full all the time

I was looking at upgrading my i5-6600k to the new i7-7700k and upon reading the reviews on Newegg A LOT of people seem to have temp problems... only people who were able to get stable temps were people running AIO coolers but if you are using an air cooler then lol dunno what to say the chip just generally seems to run hot. I'll be stickin with a 6700k imho sadly because being forced to run liquid cooling is just dumb lol.

You could adjust temps and voltages to make it more stable that's what I've seen some people do at least with air coolers.

I have the same issues with my new i7-7700k.

Which motherboard are you using?

And which connectors did you connect to the motherboard for feeding the psu?

Because i have a 4+4 pin connector and a separate 4 pin connector and i didn't connect the second connector.

I just figured that those are the temps it will reach. Other stress tests like aida64 and prime95 reached 80 decrees witch is fine. My motherboard is gigabyte ga-z170xp-sli. I'm  not sure if it has a 6 or 4 pin connector. But it has only one connector going into it

You can't plug 6pins into the motherboard (without forcing it cause they're not made to fit) so its hopefully a 4 pin.

Your power supply should have a 4+4pin for the cpu power though.
