So Im helping a friend build his first computer. He doesn't have a budget, but wants balance between price and performance.

The idea is around 2,000 USD, but it is very flexible.

He wants it to last quite a few years. It will be used for gamming and streaming/recording those games. The final build will have all peripherals included. Headphones are not needed.

He is open to water cooling. Aesthetics matter. No VR. He wants a 1080.

He doesn't understand much about specs and has basically no experience which is why i am helping. This means he doesn't even have a preference on display.

So really make this build yours. If you were in his situation, what would you make your build like? Please no crazy stupid expensive non-sensical builds. This computer needs to be realistic.

Computers r fun

I don't know in which world 2,000 USD is not a budget for a PC. BTW, what I think you should do is at least pick some parts from pcpartpicker.com and post the part list here, and from there on, people can lend some help.

Anyone who tells you they don't have a budget is straight out lying to you. There's always a budget.

When you say the final build will have all peripherals included, do you mean they need to be in list?
Does he have Windows?
Does he need a monitor? If so, what kind, what size, etc?

What games will he be playing?

You say aesthetics matter, yet gave no guidelines. You need to expand on that. Otherwise I might as well piece together an orange, yellow and blue build with purple lighting. Green PCBs where possible, of course.

Sorry, I was trying to keep it open. He basically has an extra 10,000 USD to spend anywhere, so that would be the budget, but its not all for a gamming computer.

He needs windows.

The peripherals will be in the final list, he has none now.

As for aesthetics, im asking for peoples personal preference. He doesn't specifically care he just wants it to "Look Nice."

No Games in specific.

Ultrawides and streaming don't go too well together since the video would most likely be displayed on a 16:9 display. The Ultrawide should probably used for our streaming software or whatever you need or for gaming when he is not streaming. For the Ulrawide I would get this:

And for the 16:9, I would get this:

That Asus PB is fine. It isn't a 'gaming' monitor but it will still be satisfactory. Another option would be to get a good 1440p monitor. The Dell s2716dg that someone mentioned is actually a pretty good monitor. Its TN but a very good TN panel

Pretty overkill but it's also extremely easy to make alterations to bring it under control.

I'd also get a NZXT Hue+.

  • 1TB NVMe for everything except mass storage.
4TB HDD for storage of files.
    4TB external for back up.
  • Affordable, solid case.
  • MX Master for editing, G502 for gaming.
  • K95 Platinum. G Keys, Rapidfire switches.
  • RGB lighting to make it whatever you want.
