will it work

Jup. is same bandwith then. PCIe hasn't been a bottleneck for years.

correct me if im wrong but isnt pci-e 3.0 8x the same bandwidth as pci-e 2.0 16x?

Yes. The PCIe revision goes unnoticed to multi-GPU setups, as long as the necessary lanes are there. 

 

SLI won't be happy with PCIe 3.0 4x, even though it will work fine with PCIe 2.0 8x, which has the same bandwidth. As long as the physical lanes are there.
