It'd ditch Raidmax and get a better chassis/PSU combo.

Get this PSU if you want: RM750x (Although if you can spare the change, I would REALLY get the 1000x. I have it.

Get this CPU cooler if you want: Cryorig H7 Awesome.Way better than the 212 EVO. I use it.

But the Corsair RMx is fully modular, how much would the cables cost?

The cables come with the psu unless you want custom braided ones.

Why get 1000W PSU, he only needs something akin to a 450 or 550, so 650W would be ideal for headroom, 1000 is way overkill

I'd change out the PSU and get a boot drive SSD, anything elese I would change is beyond 200 bucks

1000w is surely safe for the future, and hey? What if he gets serious and wants to pull closer to 1000w in the future? He won't have to pay another $100 for a new PSU because the one he is using is underpowered. Plus, the 850 and above have TONS of connectors.

The future will have lower power components not really higher power one, plus you'll end up paying more down the line in power usage as running a 1000 watt psu at low wattage is very inefficient

Any of the following that have a varient around 650W will do just don't spend more than 70 or 80 bucks on it

  • Antec - High Current Pro, High Current Platinum
  • be Quiet! - Dark Power Pro P10, Dark Power Pro 11
  • Bitfenix - Whisper
  • Cooler Master - V-series (modular, not to be confused with the VSM)
  • Corsair - AX, AXi, HXi, RMi, RMx, SF, Vengeance
  • Enermax - Platimax
  • EVGA - G2, G3, P2, PS, T2, 1000G1, 850W and above GS
  • FSP - Aurum PT

  • Silverstone - Nightjar
  • Super Flower - Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium

  • XFX - Pro Gold, Pro Black, XTS

Tier 2

  • Antec - EDGE, TruePower Classic
  • Azza - Platinum
  • Cooler Master - VSM-series (semi-modular), Masterwatt Maker (it's way too expensive at 450 USD but it's worthy of being tier 2)
  • Corsair - Most RM variants, HX
  • Enermax - Digifanless, RG, GX
  • EVGA - GQ, B2, 550W and 650W GS
  • Fractal Design - Edison M, Tesla R2 650W/1000W, Tesla R3
  • FSP - Hydro G
  • Gigabyte - XP1200M
  • Rosewill - Quark, Fortress, Capstone
  • Seasonic - S12G, G-series/SSRM
  • Sentey - Solid Power SS
  • Super Flower - Golden Green, Leadex Silver
  • Thermaltake - Toughpower Grand, Toughpower Grand Platinum, Toughpower DPS Platinum, EVO 2.0
  • XFX -  Pro XXX, XTR, TS Gold

As for a SSD I recommend a 250GB or 500GB samsung 850 evo, it will help greatly with boot times and is a great thing to have imo

Thats all the input I have, you'll have to pick what matters to u

A cheap SSD of today is bad because the ones you find cheap are some of the first 2.5" ssds ever released, with horrible performance, or just really low capacity. The lowest id ever go is a Kingston 120GB SSDnow v300.

You can get a perfectly normal recently released ssd 120GB for around $80, You would know that if you followed the link I provided, I would say even a below average ssd is still a vast improvement from a HDD, not everything you buy has to be top of the line in it's spectrum. And low capacity means nothing if it's /just/ a boot drive.

Low-end SSDs are unreliable to the point I would not install an OS onto them.
