So I have been seriously thinking about getting a PS4 for about a month now and am wondering if it is really worth it.  I have been a huge PC gamer for the past 4 years with Xbox in there only for CoD and Forza.  But my friend has a PS4 and the PS4 exclusives look pretty good, specifically The Last of Us.  Now I have the money to get a PS4 Slim 500 Gb or 1 Tb right now but my question is,  should I save up to get a PS4 Pro even though I don't have any kind of 4k display around?  And is it even going to be worth it getting a PS4 at all?  I don't want to drop $300+ dollars on a PS4 and games just to get bored a week later but I also don't want to ditch my PC games because I am making great progress in Elite: Dangerous.  Also,  I have been an Xbox guy for maybe 6 years and I'm loving it and to me it looks like the overall PS4 experience is bad.  My friend has an original PS4 and he has internet problems all the time, it's loud as hell, and has download speeds slower than a sloth.  But I assume these issues have been fixed in the new consoles.  Whatever,  I just want to hear about your guys' experience with the PS4.

Honestly, no. It's just one game you're lusting after it's never worth it for 1 or 2 games.

If you objectively look at the hardware, even the "Pro" one is kind of underpowered whereas the xbone at least can do 4k blueray discs now and that's a legit use case.

I'd expand my library over time of course, just right now I can't buy 10 games and love them all.  And I thought the Pro could output at 4k and took blueray?

Ask yourself.... What games I want to play and how many is it? 1 or 2 exclusives? That would not be worth it.

True,  I'd hope to get more games over time but I already have 180+ on Steam and I love the selection on PC...

Both myself and my dad has a PS4 (each) and he has used his PS4 in some cases to play Bluray, we do not have the pro version so I think the Pro version only outputs at 4k, and many people have said anyway that it's not truly 4k.

Yeah I really meant in the past like last year but I have never had a good experience with CoD on PC except BO2 Zombies, multiplayer is just way over my head cause I suck with a mouse and keyboard on CoD.  And yeah I got Horizon 3 on PC, it's pretty dope.

I've had a PS4 for like, 2 years now? I've enjoyed it. Great exclusives, but it's not worth throwing in >225$ for a couple of exclusives. If you know you're truly going to use it, then go for it. If you're there just for games like The Last of Us, then I do not recommend.

Yeah thanks bud.  I think I'll hold off for now.

I forgot to mention that Playstation Plus is there for online users (for people who want to play online) but is worth it since you get 2 (unselected) games on their store. It saves money, in some cases games up to £40 were selected to be free for P+ members.. I'm saying this because P+ costs and well, it can easily rack up if all you're doing is playing single player games.

worth saying as always

If you want you can play on your computer still and buy a xbox-one controller, most games now have controller (mainly XBOX-One) support.

Yeah I do that if I want to brave the hell holes of Infinite Warfare MP or play some Forza.

To what? Most of the library that's worth it and you can expand to is available either on PC which you have or an xbone which I am suggesting.

What else can you be seriously missing? Bloodbourne? Just play Dark Souls III instead.

Nah I hate anything similar to Dark Souls including Dark Souls.  And to whatever I want, mostly whatever FPS comes out in the future.  I just prefer some games on console, especially fast paced shooters because I grew up with a controller in my hands.

That's just dumb, like not giving PC a real chance. But suit yourself.

Yeah having over 200+ games over multiple services, almost 2,300 hours in-game on Steam, building 2 gaming rigs in 4 years and studying to develop games really isn't giving PC a real chance, sorry.

If all you care about is The Last of Us (and it's a masterpiece) then go buy a used PS3 160GB from Gamestop for $60 and pick up a used PS3 copy of The Last of Us for $10. It runs 30 fps on PS3 vs 60 fps on PS4 though.

I'm a PC gamer who bought a PS4 because there are a lot of exclusives I really wanted to play. For instance, some of the amazing PS3 remasters for games I never played when they were new, such as:

- The Last of Us

- Uncharted 1-3

- God of War 3

- Journey

Then some of the current gen exclusives like

- Uncharted 4

- Bloodborne

And then there are upcoming exclusives that I'm really interested in

- Days Gone

- Horizon Zero Dawn

- Red Dead Redemption 2 (also coming on XBone but not PC)

- God of War

- The Last of Us Part II

The nice thing is, I have all the games I wanted that have been released brand new, and the most I paid for one was $18 for Bloodborne. I guess I'm interested in Final Fantasy XV also, but not enough to pay $60 for it when I have a big queue of games I still want to play on PC in addition to the PS4 games I got. I'll probably hold out for a PC release of FF XV before getting it. Sadly I'm not expecting a PC release for Red Dead Redemption 2 since Rockstar San Diego didn't do one for RDR1.

The PS4 Pro is a little more appealing now since the PS4 Slim has gone back up to $300, especially if you're not into Uncharted 4. Uncharted 4 is a really good game though. It's no The Last of Us by any stretch of the imagination, but if you like the last two Tomb Raiders it's very similar (as are the first three games, which can be bought for <$20 as Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PS4). But I got my PS4 Slim Uncharted 4 bundle for $230 last month when Sony was running their big Christmas sale.

The PS4 Pro can smooth out framerates in games that struggle to hit 30 fps on the base PS4, but it's massively cpu bottlenecked by the crappy Jaguar cores at 2.1 GHz. A good example of this is The Last Guardian, which runs at around 25-30 fps on base PS4 but in 1080p mode gives pretty close to a locked 30 fps on PS4 Pro thanks to the cpu overclock to 2.1 GHz from the 1.6 GHz the base PS4 (and PS4 Slim) uses. The other game that's significantly better on PS4 Pro at 1080p is Watch Dogs 2 because the supersampling smoothes out some really ugly AA used. But why play that shit on PS4 when you can get it on PC?

With the PS4 Pro at 1080p mostly what you get is just supersampling, which doesn't do shit for me when I try it on my 970 so I didn't feel like it was worth it to pay $460 for PS4 Pro + Uncharted 4 vs the $230 I paid for PS4 Slim + Uncharted 4. Also you get an optical audio out on the PS4 Pro, whereas the only audio out on the PS4 Slim is through HDMI (the original PS4 has an optical audio out also).

You'd probably get wrecked playing online FPS with a controller against a bunch of PC gamers who are using mouse and keyboard though.
