Need help transferring Windows 10 License

So for some reason I had a Windows 10 Pro license key which i first used on my current PC then on my server (I didn't need a activated license) and for some reason now 6 months later it says my license on the server is activated but not on my desktop (I thought the server would just have an unactivated copy of Windows and I would have the activated copy on my PC). Luckily, my laptop which I never use also has Windows 10 Pro on it (not an OEM license). How do I transfer the license to my PC? I googled it and I am very confused. Do I have to contact Microsoft support after I transfer the license or is it just linked to my Microsoft account?

oftentimes if you call MS and say you have a PC which suddenly deactivated, after a quick phone call they'll just activate it for you

If you have Windows 10 with the anniversary update then the license should be tied to your microsoft account however since it's a laptop and OEM key (I'm assuming) then I'm not sure how that works.

It's not an OEM license so I think it should work

Ah, I see I missed that, in that case you should be good.

If it is a retail key, and you aren't activating it a whole heap of times (and keeping it to just one computer), then you shouldn't have any problems transferring it. Even if you have to call up Microsoft and get them to make it happen.

 

Just by putting the key on your server, I bet it went ahead and activated it at some point anyway. If you don't want the server to activate the key again, don't put it on there.
